Yamaha FG-300 Jumbo Acoustic 1968

Yamaha FG-300 Jumbo Acoustic 1968

Yamaha FG-300, made in Japan 1968, natural gloss. The Yamaha 'Folk Guitar' series launched in 1966, so this 'red label' example is certainly an early specimen. The FG-300 was the top of the line offering in the series, so you get some cool touches like the adjustable bridge, hummingbird-style pickguard, split pearl inlays and seven ply binding. It's beautifully executed: the workmanship and tonewood selection are top notch and you can really feel the love that's gone into it. The neck is a slim, soft-V profile, it's very comfy in the hands and features some gorgeous rosewood on the board. The tone on deck is thick: heaps of punch in the low end, wide mids with a sweetness and complexity to them and a snappy top end. It's an addictive strummer, there's a depth and snappiness to the tone that brings out the best in your playing. This one came from a local gent who bought it brand new from Allan's Music in Melbourne in 1969, so it's been a treasured item that needs a loving home. Your house, right?
