Yamaha Pulser Bass, made in Japan 1980, natural gloss over ash. This is superb. Yamaha only made these for a few years, and the build quality is awesome. The neck is a little slimmer than a Fender 50s style P, but not nearly as skinny as a Jazz Bass. It's played in perfectly, the back is silky-smooth and the board has that perfect faded-worn-played look that you only get with proper vintage pieces. The ash body is light and resonant, and the grain is really on show through the thoroughly aged lacquer. There's some tasty finish checking in a few spots, it's a serious babe. Tone-wise, this is classic P: round, warm, punchy, full and satisfying. These Pulsers are a Topshelf favourite, they never last long, and rightly so!

Cosmetic condition notes: moderate finish wear. The back has a few scratches and some checking near the neck plate and strap pin. There's some scuffing near the strap pin, and a couple of chips around the body contour cut. The front has a few minor dimples and scratches and some finish checking. The maple board has aged to a stunning aged look, it's a beautiful sight. Headstock logo is a little peeled/worn, and there's plenty of discolouration on the machine heads and bridge; they all work fine though. There's some extra holes in the guard from previous thumb rests, as well as screws from a former ashtray bridge cover. Overall: fair-good condition (6.5/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have just been polished by a luthier, they're level and have plenty of life in them, 7/10. Seriously awesome in the hands!
