Fender '70 Reissue Precision Bass Vintage White 1999-02

Fender '70 Reissue Precision Bass Vintage White 1999-02

Fender P, '70 Reissue, aged vintage white finish, crafted in Japan 99-02. It's hard to beat a beat-up white P for punk-charm, and this one has attitude in spades. The '70 style Precision models have the sweet bold black logos and a slightly slimmer neck than the '62 models, and they're a whole lot rarer. This one has seen a lot of play, there's marks and wear all over the body. The once-crispy-white finish is wonderfully yellowed, it's a creamy, dinged-up delight. The standard black guard and tasty dark rosewood board set off the finish perfectly. The frets on this are higher than standard, so they've been replaced; they're either very new or possibly hard-wearing stainless frets... either way, they're in amazing shape. Being a high-end model, you get a US pickup and alder body on this, so tone-wise, it's an A-grade monster. It's a warm, round, punchy, aggressive tone that's the epitome of 'simple and effective'. Channel Dee Dee!

Model: Fender Precision Bass '70 Reissue, PB70-70US
Made: Japan, 1999-02 (serial P023809, CIJ)
Finish: vintage white, 3-ply black guard
Body: alder
Neck: maple with rosewood board, dot inlays
Mods: thumb rest attached
Pickup: original Fender Japan PB style
Case: very basic gig bag

Cosmetic condition notes: moderate finish wear. There's a big fade-mark from a since-removed sticker on the back; it gives you a bit of an idea how the finish has changed over time. There's an unusual grey burn or rub mark below the strap pin on the back, it's fairly faint. There's a bunch of dimples on the back and front of the body. There's a patch of very worn lacquer neat the E-string just behind the guard, it must've been the favourite spot for the last owner's thumb. There's some extra holes from a former thumb rest and a bit of mottling of the finish on the top horn. Overall: good condition (6.5/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have been recently replaced, the't higher than a standard set and look almost new, 9/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105s. Very good!
